Slovenia international striker Benjamin Sesko has been strongly linked with Newcastle United in recent weeks.
The 22 year old also a target for Manchester United.
This past week it was widely reported that Man U were understood to have taken the lead and were expected to sign the RB Leipzig striker.
However, Newcastle United are said to have upped their game in recent days and it is reported now in Slovenia that NUFC have convinced Benjamin Sesko to choose them.
Delo is the leading daily newspaper in Slovenia and today (Saturday 2 August 2025) they say that their well-informed sources have told them the decision has been made, with Benjamin Sesko set to play his football on Tyneside:
‘Benjamin Sesko is moving to England!
After a months-long transfer saga, the Slovenian football star has made a decision about where he will continue his sporting career.
Slovenian football star Benjamin Sesko has made a decision. According to well-informed sources, he will continue his career with Newcastle United.
This is how the transfer saga that dragged on for several months finally unfolded. After being linked with Arsenal for a long time, who ultimately decided on Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres , and a few days ago, Manchester United warmed up for the 22-year-old (Benjamin Sesko), the battle was finally won by the management of Newcastle United.’
Delo add that they understand the final package will see Newcastle United pay RB Leipzig between €70m (approx £61m) and €80m (approx £70m)
Craig Hope of The Mail says he is unaware of any final decision on the potential signing but he does confirm that Newcastle United have in recent days ‘presented package and vision’ to Benjamin Sesko and his representatives, to convince the striker to sign for them ahead of Man U and any other interested clubs. Hope adding that he understood Newcastle were now hopeful of getting the deal done ‘after much work behind the scenes.’
As with all transfer stories/claims, it is a case of wait and see as to whether this will finally end in official confirmation of a Benjamin Sesko deal. However, it certainly appears clear that in recent days Newcastle United have upped their game to try and land the 22 year old.
