Newcastle United have stepped up their evaluation of AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori and are preparing a formal proposal to bring him back to the Premier League, according to Calciomercato.
Dubbed a ‘good player with a lot of experience’, Tomori has long been on Eddie Howe’s defensive recruitment list.
Despite a challenging domestic campaign last season, in which Milan finished fifth and missed out on Champions League football on the final day, Newcastle have identified the 28-year-old as a key defensive target.
Tomori moved from West London to Lombardy in January 2021, initially joining Milan on loan before making the move permanent.
Over his five and a half years in Serie A, he established himself as a key figure in Milan’s defence, helping guide the club to a Scudetto title and gaining significant European experience.
However, following the acquisition of Mario Gila, the Rossoneri are open to reasonable offers for the Englishman, whose contract is entering its final stretch with a June 2027 expiry date.
Tomori is understood to view a return to English football as an appealing next step in his career, provided the sporting project offers regular starting opportunities.
AC Milan are reportedly holding out for a financial package closer to €20 million, while Newcastle are aiming to complete a deal for around €15m. Negotiations between the clubs are expected to continue over the coming days.
Tomori played the first 45 minutes of Milan’s 2-2 friendly draw against Celtic on Saturday but could be left out of Wednesday’s friendly against Inter Milan as speculation over his future intensifies.
