As the 2025/26 season moves toward its conclusion, the Magpies are reportedly gearing up for a massive summer clear-out. According to a recent report from iNews, the biggest name on the chopping block is Yoane Wissa. Newcastle are reportedly willing to let the forward walk for a measly £15 million.
That is a staggering £40 million drop from the massive fee they paid to pry him away from Brentford.
It certainly wasn’t supposed to end like this. When Newcastle splashed a heavy £55 million to bring Wissa to St. James’ Park, the expectation was that he would seamlessly translate his lethal Brentford form into Eddie Howe’s high-octane attacking system.
Back at the Gtech Community Stadium, Wissa was a talismanic figure, celebrated for his clinical finishing, versatility across the front line, and knack for popping up in the biggest moments.
However, the transition to the North East has been incredibly frustrating.
Wissa has looked like a shadow of his former self, failing to replicate the form he showed at Brentford.
The striker has scored just one Premier League goal in 14 appearances for the Magpies this season.
Slashing his valuation to £15 million is a brutal, yet completely necessary, business move designed to get his wages off the books and free up crucial squad space for a much-needed summer rebuild.
At just £15 million, Wissa suddenly transforms from an overpriced flop into an incredibly tempting bargain for plenty of mid-table Premier League sides or ambitious newly-promoted clubs looking for proven top-flight experience.
As for Newcastle, this saga serves as a harsh, expensive lesson in the unpredictable reality of the transfer market.
After losing Alexander Isak last summer to Liverpool, the Magpies are still looking for a striker who can replace him and become the goal scorer that Isak was for them.
