Sky Sports have now reported that their information is that Newcastle United are set to make a new improved offer for Yoane Wissa.
However, the new update also reminding everybody once again, especially Liverpool fans, that Yoane Wissa is a target to replace Callum Wilson, NOT Alexander Isak.
The Brentford striker scored 19 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season, the most of any striker who doesn’t take penalties.
However, Yoane Wissa does turn 29 next month and so is major diversion from a Newcastle United transfer policy that usually means no outfield players are bought in, who are older than 25.
This Wissa saga has dragged on almost as long as that other transfer saga…
Whether Newcastle United will be prepared to offer enough in order for them to sell their unhappy player remains to be seen.
Eddie Howe is clearly keen to sign Yoane Wissa as Callum Wilson’s replacement and for the striker to become second in the NUFC striker pecking order, with the player similarly keen to do this as well. With Champions League football a major attraction.
Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports.
He has been summing up how things stand after the ‘action’ on Tuesday night – the statements released by Newcastle United and Alexander Isak.
Most of the other reliable journalists who regularly cover Newcastle United, are saying that the message from the club’s owners is now zero chance of Alexander Isak being allowed to move elsewhere in this window.
However, the Sky Sports man believes there is a chance still, even though very unlikely:
“If Newcastle United were to find a gem with two weeks of the window to go AND bring in Yoane Wissa AND Liverpool came to the table with a significantly higher bid, then I think Alexander Isak will be allowed to go.”
That’s the thing though, Liverpool have acted shamefully in this entire saga, more interested in feeding nonsense to the media to try and cause problems within Newcastle United in an attempt to get Alexander Isak on the cheap, rather than doing things professionally.
It is now 80 days since the summer transfer window opened, yet with only 12 days until it closes, Liverpool have only make that one joke of £110m bid. Whilst at the same time, going and buying Hugo Elitike who Newcastle United had seen a bid accepted by Eintracht Frankfurt on, thus preventing United buying the one clear available option who could have potentially then come in and allowed a sale of Isak to happen, IF Liverpool then put a proper bid in for.
With only these days remaining of the transfer window, not sure where Newcastle are going to ‘find a gem’ from AND Yoane Wissa to also be delivered AND Liverpool to finally step up and stop messing around.
