According to I Paper, Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, 22.
Newcastle’s pursuit is long-running. Since joining in summer 2024, Camara quickly established himself as a key player, although injuries have limited him to 23 appearances in all competitions this season.
Monaco’s win rate drops to 22% without him compared with 62% when he plays, underlining his influence.
Monaco are not opposed to a sale this summer, but after offloading George Ilenkihena for €33m in January there is no need to sell, so it could take a sizeable bid from the Premier League club to tempt them.
In December, Camara said he was very happy at Monaco and felt at ease, with kind and ambitious team-mates and a manager who trusts him. He follows the Premier League like everyone and was not thinking about changing clubs, adding they would see what happens at the end of the season.
