The Toon teenagers, who headed into the league clash off the back of an entertaining 3-3 draw against Leeds United, fell behind in the opening stages at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy through Christian Dunbar-McDonald's strike.

Two goals in the space of three minutes, though, turned the game in United's favour as Kacey Wooster levelled the scoring, the 17-year-old forward's eighth goal in his last nine matches at under-18 level, before Matheos Ferreira fired the young Magpies ahead before the hour mark.

Newcastle, however, fell behind for a second time as goals from Leke Drake and Finlay Gorman looked to secure City a 22nd win from their 24 league matches but Chris Moore's side salvaged a deserved point through substitute Matty Taylor's stoppage-time effort.

United's youngsters sealed a fifth-place finish in the 13-team division after registering ten wins and five draws from 24 league matches.
