Newcastle United are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani over a summer move to the St James’ Park club, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Patrick Berger.
Newcastle have made the 26-year-old France international a top priority as they look to bolster their options in the position after missing out on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenian international is set to join Manchester United despite the Toons having a bid accepted by his club.
Kolo Muani is not the only number 9 the Magpies are looking at, with his teammate Goncalo Ramos, Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins and Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson also on their radar.
The Newcastle target has three more years left on his PSG contract and could cost suitors a huge fee.
The Magpies could be ready to pay top dollar for him as they were willing to sign Sesko in a €85 million deal, offering an initial €82.5m for the Slovenian, and a similar offer could be enough to get Kolo Muani.
The Frenchman spent the second half of last term on loan at Juventus, bagging ten goals in 23 appearances.
While he is surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes club, he has what it takes to hit the ground running at SJP.
Kolo Muani has impressed in the Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Serie A, and a move to the Premier League could appeal to him.
Newcastle are offering Champions League football, which would make them an attractive option for the PSG star.
However, they are unlikely to be the only ones interested in recruiting his services and the Toons will hope they can pip other suitors to him having lost out to the likes of Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the pursuit of major summer transfer targets.
