Newcastle United make the trip to league-leading Liverpool in the Premier League this evening.
The Magpies boosted their Champions League hopes with a thrilling 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Eddie Howe’s side have won eight of their last 11 league games to move into contention for a top-four finish. Just two points separates them from fourth-placed Chelsea, ahead of their game in hand this evening.
Alexander Isak scored twice at the weekend to take his haul to 19 league goals for the campaign. Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has outscored the Sweden international so far this season.
However, Newcastle face a tough test against a Liverpool side currently 11 points clear at the top. Newcastle have not beaten Liverpool since 2015, a run of 16 games across all competitions. Their last league win at Anfield came in April 1994.
Sven Botman is ‘touch and go’ to return at Liverpool this evening, though Joelinton could come back into the side after missing the last three Premier League games with a knee issue.
Sandro Tonali was restricted to a cameo from the bench against Nottingham Forest, but Eddie Howe has confirmed the Italian came through that game unscathed.
A decision will be made on who starts in goal. Nick Pope returned against Forest but made an error for the opening goal. Martin Dubravka could be recalled.
Newcastle predicted XI: Dubravka; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
Liverpool host Newcastle in the Premier League on Wednesday February 26th 2025. Kick-off at Anfield is 20:15 GMT.
Liverpool vs Newcastle will be available to watch on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and Discovery+ UK.
