Brazil are unchanged to face Japan in the World Cup last 16, Neymar again among the substitutes. According to L'Équipe, Carlo Ancelotti has retained the side that started against Scotland.

Brazil will play 4-3-3, with Matheus Cunha leading the line and Vinicius Junior and Rayan out wide.

Raphinha remains sidelined through injury. Ibanez, withdrawn at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Morocco, is again on the bench and Danilo has definitively replaced him in Carlo Ancelotti's thinking. Marquinhos, the captain, partners Gabriel in central defence, with Bruno Guimaraes, Lucas Paqueta and Casemiro in midfield.

Alisson starts in goal and D. Santos is at left-back.

Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu has not risked Ko Itakura or Takefusa Kubo, both short of full fitness. Ao Tanaka drops out after completing 90 minutes against Sweden (1-1) and Tunisia (4-0), so Daichi Kamada moves deeper. Junya Ito starts on the right of a front line with Daizen Maeda and Ayase Ueda.
