Santos are close to having Neymar back in daily training at CT Rei Pelé, a month after surgery on his left knee, with a run of fixtures next week that should mark his return.

Globo.com reports that the forward underwent arthroscopy on 22 December to correct fraying in the meniscus region, and that his recovery, led by physiotherapist Rafael Martini, has accelerated in recent days with frequent double sessions.

He is hoping to start on-pitch work with the squad soon. He could feature against São Paulo in one of two derbies in the coming weeks.

Featuring on 31 January in the Paulistão is considered less likely. The four February clássico in the Brasileirão is viewed as the ideal moment for a gradual return.

Vojvoda said they would have him soon, in weeks or days, noting his double-session workload and commitment, after the 1-1 draw with Corinthians at Vila Belmiro.

Before Neymar’s comeback, Santos face Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday at the Neo Química Arena in the Paulistão, then Chapecoense on Wednesday in Santa Catarina to open the Brasileirão.
