Neymar underwent CBF-requested tests on Monday after taking a knock that caused pain in his right calf, as he awaits Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup list, due later in Rio.
According to Globo.com, the assessments are routine for players in contention, with the squad to be named at the Museu do Amanhã in the late afternoon. Santos expect him to be among the 26, and club staff will mark the announcement in the Marble Hall.
The forward will be at home with family and friends, after singer Thiaguinho and volleyball player Bruninho posted they were heading to see him. Santos reconvened on Monday morning at CT Rei Pelé after losing to Coritiba, starting preparations for San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana.
After the Coritiba game, coach Cuca said he thought it would be difficult for Neymar, given the calf pain, to be ready to help the side against San Lorenzo. Defender Luan Peres remains at Hospital São Luiz Anália Franco in São Paulo after a concussion from a ball to the head following a Lucas Taverna shot.
He is well and should be discharged on Monday, but will probably miss the Sudamericana tie, as the CBF concussion protocol mandates five days out of training. Left-back Escobar, who felt discomfort in the back of his left thigh, will be assessed on Monday and is a doubt, while midfielder Gustavo Henrique joined the gym group for a recovery session. The rest trained on the pitch, and Cuca will finalise his team on Tuesday afternoon.
