Nico Williams has been diagnosed with a right adductor muscle injury, though the severity is lower than first feared. He will remain with Spain and could return if the team progress further at the World Cup.

The Spanish federation said the winger suffered the problem after a heavy challenge against Uruguay and classed it as a moderate muscle injury.

Williams described the day as among the hardest of his life, acknowledging a difficult year battling pubalgia that took a toll but did not defeat him.

He recalled overcoming it through work, sacrifice and responsibility, and spoke of a year and a half marked by suffering, sadness, uncertainty and anxiety. At times, even simple daily tasks were painful as he waited to play without discomfort again.

Regaining happiness and his smile on the pitch became his priority. He said he got through that spell, then a hamstring issue tested him again, yet he refused to stop.

Williams also criticised the challenge by Nico de la Cruz that led to his latest setback, calling it avoidable and driven by frustration. He insisted it will not deter him, expressing faith that he will keep fighting to return to what he loves.

He thanked supporters for their messages and kept an optimistic outlook, saying the story is not over and he hopes to be back at this World Cup as soon as possible.
