Although just 416 minutes since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan from Chelsea, Carney Chukwuemeka has already showcased his importance to the club.
Replacing Maximilian Beier after 35 minutes in Dortmund’s win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, Chukwuemeka played a role in all three goals in BVB’s 3-2 win.
Opta note that Chukwuemeka is the only player in Europe’s top five leagues this season to average: 2+ shots (3.4 per 90), 2+ open play chances created (2.6), 2+ completed dribbles (2.6) and 2+ successive tackles (2.2).
Speaking exclusively to Ruhr Nachrichten, Niko Kovac was asked whether Chukwuemeka would be one of his dream players for the 2025/26 season.
“Carney will return to Chelsea first,” said Kovac. “What happens after that is still up in the air. It’s clear that he has qualities and that I like him, that we all like him. But Chelsea are smart enough to structure the process in such a way that they will benefit from it.”
Given recent performances in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, Borussia Dortmund will reportedly open talks with Chelsea to extend Chukwuemeka’s stay at the Signal Iduna Park beyond the current season. Whether that’s another loan or on a permanent basis is undecided.
