Norwich had been hoping to bring in Glen Kamara on loan from Rennes for the remainder of the 2025-26 season but have been snubbed by the French club.

Norwich City have been knocked back in an attempt to take Glen Kamara on loan from Stade Rennais for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

A 1-0 defeat at promotion-chasing Middlesbrough may have ended an impressive run of three straight wins, but the Canaries have still been transformed since the appointment of Philippe Clement in November.

City have won seven and drawn three of their League matches since he took charge at Carrow Road, lifting the team four points above the Championship relegation zone.

They still aren't out of the woods in that respect, of course. Four points is not a very big gap, and with that in mind, Norwich are looking to strengthen ahead of the transfer window.

However, their attempts to bring the highly-experienced former Championship midfielder and Finnish international Glen Kamara to the club on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season appear to have fallen flat.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported on the eve of deadline day that Norwich City have failed in a bid to take Glen Kamara to Carrow Road on loan.

City's recruitment team, led by director of football Ben Knapper, evidently want to add a bit more experience to their engine room, but they haven't had any luck in trying to bring the 70-cap Finland international back to England for the remainder of the campaign.

Kamara is now expected to stay in France for the rest of the season - unless a fresh offer could test their resolve before the 7pm deadline on Monday.

The 30-year-old midfielder has plenty of experience of playing in the United Kingdom, having started his career in the academy system at Arsenal before going on to play for Dundee, Rangers and Leeds United, as well as having loan spells with Southend United and Colchester United.

Norwich City should keep trying for Glen Kamara - his experience could prove vital

Glen Kamara joined Rennes from Leeds United for a fee reported to be £8.4 million during the summer transfer window in 2024, but his time with the club hasn't exactly gone according to plan.

He was sent out on loan to Saudi Arabia for the second half of the 2024-25 season, but although he returned to the club at the end of that season, he's only made three brief substitute appearances for them in Ligue Un throughout 2025-26 so far.

But at 30 years of age, Kamara isn't a young player who Rennes might want to gain experience elsewhere, and although his parent club haven't been using him very much this season - they clearly value him enough as a striker to want to retain him for the rest of this season.

It may even be that the player would like to move elsewhere in order to get more game-time, but the simple fact remains that signing an older player on loan is not the same as signing a younger one.

Kamara's experience might have been very useful to Norwich City, as they seek to pull further clear of the relegation places in the Championship.

He was part of Leeds' squad that reached the 2024 play-off final before losing to Southampton, with the Whites having paid Rangers a fee reported to be in the region of £5 million for him just a year earlier.

But if Norwich are to bring in an experienced midfielder in order to secure their Championship position throughout the remainder of this season, they may have to start looking elsewhere - but they should perhaps not give up the chase for Kamara just yet.
