West Brom will open their Championship campaign with a long trip to Norwich City on 15 August, an early examination for James Morrison’s side against improving hosts.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that Norwich have completed a statement signing of Sheffield United academy graduate Andre Brooks on a five-year deal, an initial £8 million that could rise to £9m with promotion. The 22-year-old wideman has been a long-term target.

Belgian head coach Philippe Clement, the former Rangers manager, replaced Liam Manning in November and inspired a major upturn. The Canaries finished ninth, eight points off the play-offs, having been strugglers earlier in the season and remained in contention until the final weeks. He is fancied by many to push City higher this season.

Brooks was United’s players’ and young player of the season last term in a disappointing campaign that ended 13th. The Jamaica international has scored nine goals in 96 first-team appearances and has impressed against Albion before.

He becomes Norwich’s first permanent signing of the summer and their second addition overall, after Brazil defender Bruno Alves, 20, joined from Cruzeiro on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
