Sheffield United are recovering after a heartbreaking play-off final defeat to Sunderland in May, and one of the biggest risks they face this summer is losing those players that they wanted to keep for the new season.

Two of the names most closely linked to a move away from Bramall Lane this summer have been Gustavo Hamer and Vini Souza.

Hamer has been linked to both Leeds United and Everton, while Souza has been reported as being “ready to take the next step” in his career.

But, will Sheffield United sell?

Claim made on Gustavo Hamer's Sheffield United future

Speaking to Football League World, our Blades fan pundit, Jimmy (aka Blades Ramble), said that he's not convinced that Hamer will leave the club this summer.

"I think one might, I think the most likely the most likely to leave will be Vini Souza.

"I'm not quite sure that people will pay the price that we will want for Gus and also, as brilliant as Gustavo is, I think the fact that he struggles to finish games sometimes is very inconsistent.

"When he's great, he's brilliant. When he's on his game, he's the best player on the park, but it's not every game. His fitness doesn't allow him to finish most games.

"He picks up the odd injury - as does Vini, to be fair - and his discipline is quite poor. This is me nit-picking, but I don't think it's a done deal that Gus Hamer leaves Sheffield United."

Sheffield United are under no obligation to sell Gustavo Hamer

Hamer has had two impressive seasons with Sheffield United since his £15 million transfer from Coventry City in 2023.

He's made over 80 appearances over those two seasons with the Blades, of which 36 came in the Premier League. He penned a four-year contract upon signing for the club, so he is contracted to them until 2027.

With the amount of money they receive from parachute payments dropping this summer, the Blades will be keen to maximise every penny that they can get from the sale of any players, and the two years remaining on his contract give them no obligation to sell.

If clubs interested in acquiring Hamer won't match that valuation, the likelihood is that he will stay at Bramall Lane this summer. Retaining his services would also send a strong statement to the rest of the Championship about Sheffield United's intentions for the new season.

They may have fallen at the very last at the end of the 2024/25 season, but they'll have no intention of doing the same next time around.
