Gary Neville slammed Luke Shaw for his display in Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton on Monday night.

The Red Devils produced a woeful performance in front of their home crowd and deservedly lost to drop down to 10th in the league standings

Everton were reduced to ten-men after 13 minutes when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane.

But Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall stunned the Old Trafford supporters by scoring through a long-range strike just before the half-hour mark.

Despite their numerical superiority, United failed to trouble Everton defenders and slumped to their first defeat since September

Neville was left surprised by Ruben Amorim’s decision to stick with Shaw operating as a left-sided defender.

While on punditry duty for Sky Sports, the former England international blasted Shaw for his reluctance to get forward and join the attack.

“Shaw is ambling forward,” Neville said. “It has been bugging me for the last 20 minutes and now I’m just going to say it.

“He is ambling. Look at him. You can’t do that.

“That is a waste of time. Honestly, it’s a waste of time. It’s not conning anyone.”

United battled back from losing positions to secure draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

But they were appalling in Monday’s defeat against Everton, and criticism is absolutely justified.

The Toffees played with ten-men for more than an hour, yet United allowed them to score and then failed to find a way past their resolute defence.

Shaw endured a poor game, but his teammates also didn’t fare better. Only Amad Diallo looked lively in the attack, creating four chances for the team.

Fans will expect a response from Amorim’s men when they return to action on Sunday at Crystal Palace.
