Not Lamine or Mbappé: One La Liga star included in Champions League Team of the Season | OneFootball

A solitary La Liga representative has secured for himself a place in the official UEFA Champions League Team of the Season.

The player in question comes from Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid squad, in the form of Marcos Llorente.

The 2025/26 Champions League campaign was of course brought to a close on Saturday night, as Paris Saint-Germain bested Arsenal to make it back-to-back titles on Europe’s grandest stage.

The Team of the Season, unveiled online on Sunday, has therefore unsurprisingly been dominated by stars from the squads of the French and English champions.

The likes of David Raya, Nuno Mendes, Declan Rice and Ousmane Dembélé have all been named in UEFA’s XI.

In fact, only three players not currently plying their trade for either Arsenal or PSG have been included. The first two come from Bayern Munich, in Michael Olise and Harry Kane. And the third is a somewhat surprising name from Atlético Madrid.

After enjoying a fine campaign on the continent en route to his side’s semi-final exit, Marcos Llorente has beaten Achraf Hakimi to the right-back spot in the Champions League Team of the Season:
