As has been well-established at this point, a new midfielder has become a top priority for Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window.

The club hierarchy realise the failure to replace Luka Modric and Toni Kroos has hurt the team and wish to address the issue in the summer with a new midfield signing.

Names like Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are gaining weight, but PSG superstar Vitinha is seen as the dream target.

Fabian Ruiz also on the radar

Now, according to ESPN, Real Madrid have their sights on Vitinha’s teammate and fellow PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

Indeed, Los Blancos have internally discussed the name of the Spanish international as a possible option for the summer transfer window.

Formerly of Real Betis, the 29-year-old midfielder has been at PSG for over four years now, having made the switch from Napoli back in 2022.

However, Ruiz’s contract with the reigning French and European champions expires in 2027, meaning he would be entering the final year of his deal this summer.

It could provide Real Madrid with an opportunity to scoop up his signing for a reasonable transfer fee, although at this point there is nothing to suggest that their interest in him is concrete.

As things stand, with Vitinha’s signing seen as difficult, Kees Smit is emerging as the most-favoured option. It remains to be seen how things develop in the months to come.
