Director of football Hugo Viana is expected to be very active in the market once again and build on Manchester City’s shrewd January acquisitions of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi for a combined £84 million.

Report: Forest eyeing transfer record with Anderson sale

As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Nottingham Forest will want to break the Premier League transfer record for a midfielder if they do sell Anderson this summer.

Manchester City are widely understood to be leading the race for the 23-year-old, who is believed to have given the go-ahead to his representatives to make the sensational switch to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Manchester United are also pursuing Anderson’s signature and could shift their focus instead to Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali – also on City’s radar – as they themselves look to shore up their midfield ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

City executives are set to hold direct transfer talks with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has tied Anderson to a contract at the City Ground till the summer of 2029 but could negotiate a lucrative sale for the England international this summer.

When are Man City expected to complete the signing of Anderson?

Anderson is set for a big summer as he prepares to line up for England at the FIFA World Cup across the Atlantic, having established himself as one of the first names on Thomas Tuchel‘s teamsheet following a breakthrough few years for club and country.

Manchester City hold major internal belief over Elliot Anderson signing amid Manchester United competition

Manchester City are expected to reach a resolution over Rodri’s future in the coming months and as the Blues remain in the quest for a domestic treble, no club-to-club negotiations are expected to occur before the end of the season.

Executives at the Etihad Stadium will be holding behind-the-scenes talks with Anderson’s camp to agree wages, incentives before they look to step up talks before the midfielder jets off to north America for the FIFA World Cup.

However, there is an acceptance that a transfer may not be concluded until after Anderson returns from the Atlantic, despite Manchester City’s desire to finish as much transfer business as they can before this summer’s marquee tournament.
