Nottingham Forest are reviewing the goalkeeper department as the window opens, with Matz Sels and John Victor the only senior options.
According to Nottingham Post, Stefan Ortega and Angus Gunn will leave as free agents when their deals expire this month. Gunn’s sole outing was the second half of February’s 1-1 with Crystal Palace, while Ortega played 10 times, impressing in Europe.
Sels is first choice. John had a brief run under Sean Dyche before a costly error and a season-ending injury at Aston Villa in January.
Cruzeiro have been linked with John Victor. Voetbal Nieuws claims Sels would like to be closer to home and suggests Club Brugge as a fit, though he has 12 months left and Forest are unlikely to be keen on losing him after his late-season form.
Whether John departs may depend on how far Forest reshape the position and whether he offers adequate cover.
Recruitment calls include adding experienced competition for Sels, which seemed to sharpen him, or a younger long-term successor, in line with recent windows.
It is quiet on targets. Very tentative links point to Rangers’ Jack Butland for under £1 million, while fans floated Brice Samba, now settled at Rennes, and Manchester City’s James Trafford, 23, who would likely attract Newcastle United.
