Morgan Gibbs-White’s first-half strike earned Nottingham Forest a 1-0 win over Porto at the City Ground and a 2-1 aggregate victory to reach the Europa League semi-finals.

The tie had been 1-1 after the first leg in Portugal. According to Nottingham Post, Elliot Anderson was unavailable following the death of his mother.

Porto started sharply, Stefan Ortega saving from Terem Moffi inside the opening minutes. Jan Bednarek was then sent off for a reckless challenge on Chris Wood after referee Danny Makkelie consulted the pitchside monitor. Gibbs-White scored in the 12th minute via a deflection, then Wood, hurt in the foul, was substituted, and the scorer held up a shirt with Anderson’s name and No.8 in support.

Despite the advantage, chances came at both ends, with William Gomes hitting the woodwork after the break. Injuries forced off Murillo and half-time substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Porto struck the frame again late on before Nicolas Dominguez fired wide. Forest will face Aston Villa in the last four.
