Nottingham Forest have registered winter signing Stefan Ortega in their Europa League squad, replacing the injured Matz Sels ahead of Vitor Pereira’s first match.
According to Nottingham Post, Ortega had initially been omitted from the revised list named at the start of the month but has now been added and is eligible for the two-legged play-off with Fenerbahce for a place in the last 16. The tie begins in Istanbul on Thursday at 5.45pm, with the return at the City Ground next Thursday.
Sels has been sidelined since a groin problem forced him off in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace a little over a fortnight ago. Angus Gunn came on at the break, and Ortega has started in goal since.
Before the 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sean Dyche said the injury was settling down but not a matter of days, adding hope it would improve sooner rather than later. He also said the goalkeeper was feeling pretty good at the time. He was dismissed after that stalemate.
Pereira was appointed on Sunday as Dyche’s replacement, becoming the club’s fourth manager of the season. Preserving Premier League status remains his priority, though progress in Europe is also in view. The Fenerbahce meeting doubles as a return to a former club for the Portuguese, who previously had two spells in charge there.
