Nottingham Forest are assessing striker options after allowing Arnaud Kalimuendo to leave on loan, and developments at Roma could create an opening.
Roma are hopeful of signing Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, have virtually sealed Robinho Vaz from Marseille and remain keen on Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Forest, Betis and Napoli are monitoring Evan Ferguson’s situation.
Ferguson joined Roma from Brighton in July on a season-long loan with a €40million option to buy. He has three goals in 15 Serie A appearances and has recently been sidelined with a back injury, prompting suggestions he could make way if new forwards arrive.
Forest’s need is sharpened by Chris Wood’s injury and Kalimuendo’s move to Eintracht Frankfurt, leaving Taiwo Awoniyi as Igor Jesus’ back-up.
Elsewhere, Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, Roma’s Artem Dovbyk and Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri have also been mentioned, with Everton linked to the latter.
Ferguson came through Brighton’s academy after Bohemians and was on the verge of a breakthrough before ankle surgery and a difficult spell at West Ham last season left him needing to reset.
