One of the major surprises on this summer’s transfer deadline day, was the breaking news in the media of Will Osula set to sign for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Newcastle United had already brought in Nick Woltemade for a club record transfer fee.

Whilst everybody knew that the Yoane Wissa and Alexander Isak sagas would be announced very late on Monday 1 September 2025.

Sure enough, a very brief official statement from Newcastle United on that Monday night confirming Isak had gone to Liverpool, followed very quickly only minutes later by a more lengthy statement, letting us know that Yoane Wissa was indeed now an NUFC player.

As for Will Osula signing for Eintracht Frankfurt, that just didn’t happen, with no real explanation as to why.

Now that has been revealed in a new exclusive from The Mail, why the young Danish striker is still playing for Newcastle United, not Eintracht Frankfurt.

‘A permanent deal totalling around £30million was all but agreed with the Bundesliga club and Osula was ready to leave the Denmark national-team camp to complete the transfer. Newcastle had included a buy-back clause for the striker, who had only joined the club 12 months previously from Sheffield United.

However, Frankfurt changed the make-up of the deal late on and instead negotiated a loan with an option to buy.

That loan move was still set to go through until Newcastle’s majority owners, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, sent instruction for it to be cancelled. Despite the loan fee being in excess of £6m, it is thought PIF believed the new terms favoured the German club more than Newcastle.’

A sliding doors moment potentially in the fledgling career of Will Osula?

There has been some ridiculously over the top criticism of the young striker from some Newcastle United fans.

Osula is still very inexperienced and has only started 13 league games in his entire career. Nine Premier League starts for a Sheffield United side who were effectively relegated months before the 2023/24 season ended, three League One starts at Derby in 2022/23 when on loan from the Blades, plus the single NUFC PL start at Elland Road this season.

Apart from sub appearances, cup matches and when he has played for the Denmark Under 21s, that is the full extent of Will Osula’s professional playing experience so far.

I think he has got something, raw talent and pace. However, he is still a work in progress AND in my opinion, has looked better when operating off the right wing and cutting in with the ball, rather than as an out and out centre-forward.

His goals against Liverpool and Bradford(x2) will have done Will Osula a power of good and plenty of matches to go around this season, minutes on the pitch.

The way some fans go on, you would think Osula had been a mega money signing, rather than a £10m punt (plus up to another £5m in future add-ons if targets were/are hit).

I think he has already in today’s market, proves that he is at the very least a £10m/£15m striker, even a £30m one judged on the Eintracht Frankfurt valuation.

Can he go higher at Newcastle United, in terms of achievement on the pitch and valuation off it?
