Official | Atlético Madrid reach agreement with Botafogo over Thiago Almada

Atlético Madrid have announced that they have reached an agreement with Botafogo to sign attacking midfielder Thiago Almada (24). The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina has been loaned to Lyon in the second half of the 2024-2025 campaign, as the Eagle Football-owned Ligue 1 side circumvented the transfer ban imposed by the DNCG.

The 10-time Argentina international logged two goals and five assists in 20 games played with Lyon. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Colchoneros will only purchase half of the player’s economic rights, which were owned by Lyon, for a reported €21m. In Madrid, Thiago Almada will reunite with fellow Argentine internationals Julian Alvarez and Rodrigo de Paul, although the latter is reportedly closing in on a move to Inter Miami.
