The recent trend of focusing on renewals more than signings continues at FC Barcelona. So far in the winter transfer window, the Catalan club has continued to give priority to addressing their contractual obligations first. After all, Barcelona considers their own key players to be immensely important to the team.
Gradually, the club has managed to make its way past most of the pressing contractual cases. Ronald Araujo’s extension until 2031 came first, alongside the renewal of Spanish left-back Gerard Martin as well. Soon after, Barcelona managed to get another new deal signed as well.
Pedri, aged 22, has also signed his new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until 2030. The Spaniard’s renewal was a key objective for the club considering his importance to the team both in the present and for the foreseeable future as well.
Now, Barcelona has officially managed to renew 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Gavi as well. With talks of a new contract for him having been circulating for a while, he has now officially put pen to paper and is set to stay at the Catalan club until 2030 as well.
After a rather frustrating period on the sidelines due to his untimely ACL injury, Gavi is now well and truly back to his best. Already a more prominent piece for Hansi Flick’s team, the Barcelona midfielder has truly earned the right to call the team his home for the next several years.
His character remains fitting of a player who is ready to put his life on the line for Barcelona, and it is one of the reasons why he is seen by many as a potential candidate for becoming a team captain in the future. For now, however, he is an engine in the midfield for this team that never stops running.
Moreover, according to some reports, both Gavi and Inigo Martinez were next in line to get their contracts officially signed after Pedri’s renewal. With both Spanish midfielders having put pen to paper on their new deals, the next one to do so could be the veteran defender after all.
