Jérémy Jacquet (20) sustained a serious shoulder injury at the start of February, and his current club, Stade Rennais have confirmed that the defender will now undergo surgery.
Jacquet sustained the injury on 7th February during a 3-1 loss to RC Lens. He was unable to complete the match and he has yet to feature since. That came just days after it was announced that the France youth internaitonal would join Liverpool in a deal worth €70m in the summer. The centre-back, who has had an extraordinary rise to prominence over the course of the past 12 months, ever since the recall from his loan spell at Clermont Foot, was the subject of interest from many top European clubs, including Chelsea.
His move to Anfield has already been confirmed and he will make the move to Merseyside at the end of the season. It was hoped that Jacquet would continue to get gametime at Rennes in the meantime, but the Breton club confirmed on Tuesday morning that their player would undergo surgery on the shoulder injury in the coming days.
A return date has not been provided, but it has already been reported by L’Équipe and Ouest-France that his season is now over.
