FC Augsburg have officially confirmed the reported-on signing of Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan from Sporting CP. As noted earlier, the six-month loan arrangement contains a €5m purchase option. The 20-year-old still has only one Portuguese Premeira Liga goal to his credit, registering one tally whilst on loan at AVS Futebol SAD during the 2024/25 campaign.
Ribeiro still hasn’t scored for the first team of his parent club, but did net 16 goals for the Sporting B squad. This will be the Portuguese international’s third loan stint. He also failed to accrue much of any playing time whilst on loan at Nottingham Forest during the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Ribeiro counts as Augsburg’s third addition of the ongoing January transfer window. The Fuggerstädter have already brought in their former striker Michael Gregoritsch and also secured the services of defensive specialist Yannik Keitel.
“The path Rodrigo has taken at only 20 years of age is impressive,” FCA sporting director Benni Weber noted in a club statement. “He brings technical quality, dynamism, and goal-scoring threat. He expanding our options in attack while increasing competition for that position. That’s precisely what we need.”
“The prospects I was shown in Augsburg convinced me immediately,” the player himself added. “I’m joining an ambitious club that trusts young players and gives them the chance to prove themselves.“
