Borussia Mönchengladbach – reacting to an injury to Yukhym Konoplia – have rapidly concluded the signing of Japanese right back Daiki Hashioka. As reported by Get German Football News earlier today, the 27-year-old will spend the year on loan with his new Bundesliga club. A permanent purchase option is part of the deal.
Hashioka arrives with extensive European experience. The former Urawa Red Diamonds player moved to Belgian club Sint-Truiden in 2021 before joining Luton Town three years later.
The Japanese defender made ten Premier League appearances for Luton before transferring to Slavia Prague last summer. He spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at KAA Gent, making 17 appearances.
Hashioka has also earned 12 senior caps for Japan. He received a national-team call-up and featured in March, but was not included in the country’s World Cup squad.
“Daiki is quick, strong-in-the-air and an aggressive defender who can be deployed primarily on the right side of the back line or as a right centre-back,” sporting director Rouven Schröder noted in the club’s official statement. “He also brings a fair amount of experience, and we’re convinced that he’ll be helping us out very soon.”
“When my agent told me about Borussia’s inquiry, I was really happy,” Hashioka said. “I knew right away that I wanted to do this, and I’m very much looking forward to the challenge in the Bundesliga.”
