FSV Mainz 05 have loaned out attacking prospect Ben Bobzien to Dynamo Dresden. The 22-year-old parlayed his strong summer training camp into three Conference League appearances during the first half of the current campaign. Although Bobzien only made one brief Bundesliga relief appearance this season, the talented young striker made his presence felt for Mainz on the European level. Bobzien recorded an UECL assist in one of his two starts.
Back in July, Mainz’s talismanic midfielder leader Nadiem Amiri let it be known that he felt Bobzien wasn’t far away from a breakthrough on the Bundesliga level. In a way, Amiri’s augury has proven true. Bobzien looks to accrue plenty of minutes for his new 2. Bundesliga outfit as they fight through drop. Dresden, in 17th-place, currently seek to fight their way up out of the second automatic relegation place.
Bobzien has already accrued useful developmental experience whilst out on loan as Elversberg while they were in the 3. Liga, along with Lustenau and Klagenfurt in the Austrian Bundesliga. Bobzien has 10 Austrian Bundesliga goals to his credit during the loan stints with the two ÖFB clubs.
“We are delighted that we were able to get Ben excited about our project,” SGD sporting director Sören Gonther noted in a club statement. “He is versatile in the front line as he can play both on the wings and as a striker. This renders our [attacking] game even more unpredictable. With his pace and skillful play, he has developed steadily over the past few years and has grown into a key player in the Austrian Bundesliga.“
“I see Dynamo as the perfect opportunity to take the next steps in my development,” the player himself added. “The people in charge immediately gave me the feeling that we can achieve something together. Now I’m looking forward to our joint time together.“
