St. Pauli have loaned Scottish attacker Scott Banks out to Blackpool. The 23-year-old – regrettably hard hit by injury again last season – ended up making 12 Bundesliga appearances for the Kiezkicker last season, all as a substitute. Banks was initially loaned out to St. Pauli by Crystal Palace ahead of the 2023/24 2. Bundesliga campaign.
Despite the fact that the Scotland U21 international missed virtually the entire season with injury, St. Pauli opted to sign the Scotland U21 international permanently ahead of their 2024/25 season in the German top flight. Banks did impress for the Hanseaten in a pre-season friendly, but was rendered fully expendable once the Hamburg outfit acquired Magdeburg striker Martijn Kaars.
It’s now over the English third division for the Linlithgow-native, who will still play one tier above where he served at his last English station of Bradford City. FSCP sporting director Andreas Bornemann made clear that the club wasn’t giving up on Banks in a club-released statement.
“For a young player, playing time is extremely important for their development,” Bornemann said. “Given the strong competition for offensive positions and the fact that he cannot play for our U23 team due to his citizenship, a loan to England is the best opportunity for Scott to get back on the pitch regularly. We wish him every success in Blackpool.”
