One January move from Manchester City may lead to another

Looking at the Manchester City squad it would appear that signing a goalscoring winger would be of great benefit to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Jeremy Doku has been superb this season but he is more of a creator of chances rather than a consistent goal threat. Savinho and Oscar Bobb are still developing as players and neither player would be considered a prolific goalscorer at this stage of their careers. Omar Marmoush is seemingly destined to be Erling Haaland’s backup up so there looks to be an opening in the City squad for a viable goal threat from out wide.

It has been reported that Manchester City are considered the strongest contenders to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Another report has linked Oscar Bobb with a January move to Crystal Palace. It could be a case of one winger in and one out for City during next month’s transfer window.

Manchester City face stiff competition to sign Antoine Semenyo but seem to be well placed to sign the Bournemouth winger.

Lyall Thomas and Rob Dorsett have reported for Sky Sports that Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United are all interested in signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth during next month’s transfer window. Furthermore, the Sky Sports report states that City are considered the strongest contenders to sign the Ghana international. Manchester United and Tottenham are also in the race to sign Semenyo. Liverpool is also lurking in the background to sign Semenyo as per the Sky Sports report.

Simon Jones has reported for the Daily Mail that Crystal Palace are interested in signing Oscar Bobb during the January transfer window. Furthermore, Jones reports that Crystal Palace aren’t the only club interested in securing Oscar Bobb’s services next month and that City are open to offers for the Norwegian international.

It could be a case of one winger in and one winger out at City next month.

If Manchester City did sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth next month, they would have a plethora of wingers in their squad. Currently, Jeremy Doku, Oscar Bobb, Savinho, Rayan Cherki, Bernardo Silva, Omar Marmoush and Phil Foden can all play in the wing position. If Semenyo did arrive at the Etihad Stadium next month it would not be a surprise to see City let a winger depart via a sale or on loan. Oscar Bobb could be the prime candidate to depart the club based on how this season has unfolded for him.

Oscar Bobb has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City this season. The rise of Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki in particular, has seen Bobb’s opportunities become limited. Oscar Bobb also hasn’t performed well enough when he has had the opportunity to play. Based on all of this it isn’t a surprise to learn that City are open to offers for Oscar Bobb. Whether or not he leaves City next month may depend on whether City sign Antoine Semenyo. The other impediment to any potential Oscar Bobb transfer is the hamstring injury he suffered against Brentford. It remains to be seen how long Bobb will be ruled out for.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Manchester City sign Antoine Semenyo next month and then let Oscar Bobb leave. They would have a surplus of wingers if they do sign Semenyo and Bobb could be the odd man out in Pep Guardiola’s squad if that is how everything transpires next month.
