Manchester City simply must pick up a point today against Fulham at Craven Cottage in their final Premier League fixture of the 24/25 season. A draw will secure Pep Guardiola’s side a spot in next season’s Champions League. But they’d prefer to pick up all three points today to ensure that today isn’t a nervy affair. City will need their key players to perform today to pick up the result they need against Marco Silva’s side today.
One player who could play a key role for Manchester City today is Erling Haaland. Haaland has now played three games since returning from an ankle injury. City’s top-scorer should have found his feet, and he has the potential to be Manchester City’s match-winner against Fulham today.
Erling Haaland missed seven matches after sustaining an ankle injury against Bournemouth at the end of March. He returned to the pitch for Manchester City’s nil-all draw against Southampton two weeks ago. He looked rusty at St. Mary’s as Manchester City were held to a frustrating nil-all draw. Haaland played in Manchester City’s FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace a week later. He wasn’t at his best at Wembley as he struggled to get into the game. Haaland started Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth and he began to look more like himself at the Etihad. He got around the pitch better and had an influence on Manchester City’s crucial win.
But what is apparent is that Erling Haaland isn’t a player who can return from an injury layoff in peak form. He needs to work his way back into the groove of things after a spell on the sidelines. The hope is that he has found that groove now that he has played three games since returning from injury. He looms as a pivotal player in today’s match for Pep Guardiola’s side.
If Erling Haaland can fire today it could be crucial to Manchester City’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. He does loom as a potential match-winner in today’s match. Haaland should be raring to go today. He’s had his games to get back into the swing of things. Now he must deliver on the final day of the 24/25 season.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference on Friday, Pep Guardiola told the media that Erling Haaland has been getting better. He was hopeful that his number nine could fire them into the Champions League. Speaking on Erling Haaland’s form and fitness Pep Guardiola said: “Every day he’s getting better and on Sunday he’s going to help us to qualify for the Champions League.”
Erling Haaland has now played three games to find his form and touch. Hopefully he can be at his best for Manchester City in their crucial fixture against Fulham later today. If he is he may well fire City into next season’s Champions League. That is his job and if he can do that it will be a good ending to what has been a disappointing season for Manchester City.
