The biggest obstacle discussed was not Spence’s ability but Tottenham’s valuation.

Lynch suggested Liverpool would only become seriously interested if the financial terms represented good value.

“It would have to be the right deal because Liverpool won’t want to overspend for someone who isn’t necessarily coming in as an automatic starter.”

That reflects Liverpool’s wider transfer strategy throughout the summer.

The club have demonstrated a willingness to spend heavily for players they view as transformative additions, while remaining disciplined when assessing squad options.

Perhaps the most significant point from the discussion was that Spence has not been ruled out.

Lynch stopped short of suggesting negotiations are underway, but equally refused to dismiss the possibility entirely.

“It’s certainly one to keep an eye on because Liverpool have admired him before.”

That previous admiration could become relevant if Liverpool’s defensive priorities change during the closing weeks of the transfer window.
