Saturday, ten-thirty in the morning.
What better start to the day than a pint and a J2O for the youngster at Wetherspoons in Victoria station?
Several knots of Newcastle United fans, none in colours, but obvious to the trained eye of the away day supporter is the clothing and style of their attire.
The Brighton Belle awaits and we are soon on our way for a midday meet up with my mate and his lad at the Prince Albert when the doors open.
Then it is off to the Brighton racecourse where double decker buses ferry supporters across the South Downs to the Amex stadium.
We make our way into the Brighton end and my mate has got us tickets close to the (official) Newcastle United fans.
Seats perfectly in line with the goal line.
Seats with a view so good of the opening goal by Danny Welbeck and his celebration right in front of us.
We slump and sigh at the inevitability of it all.
Half-time refreshments and I have a potential ding dong with some young Brighton lads who have spilled my beer.
Second half is much better and when we see the incredible Woltemade goal right in front of, us there is a giant Liquorice assortment explosion behind the goal. We celebrate without a care, laughing at the audacity.
At this point I turn to the kids and my mate and say we are going to win this, certain we would take it to them and get the result and break our poor run against Brighton.
Welbeck had other plans and so again we leave the Amex empty handed.
Back in the Lanes in Brighton it is fish and chips all round before going to Brighton train station, only to find that the Geordies have emptied Waitrose of all the beer.
