The Athletic’s Deal Sheet for this week is out, and as well as some really solid information about Nicolas Jackson and his potential departure, there’s also some tempting chatter about Jamie Gittens.

A deal for the Dortmund winger seemed to grow really close just before the Club World Cup kicked off. Chelsea had agreed personal terms and weren’t a million miles away on figuring out a fee with his club.

However the start of the tournament reduced the need for rush, and it’s since taken a back seat to other news. David Ornstein’s latest update should put paid to that.

The insider writes that the situation “could be resolved imminently”, as “talks have continued” in the USA. The winger “favours a move to Stamford Bridge” and “remains fully committed to the idea of joining Enzo Maresca’s side.”

The fact that both Chelsea and Dortmund are playing at the CWC has apparently helped negotiations. Gittens has continued to appear for the German side in the tournament, coming on as a sub in their first game against Fluminense.

They play Ulsan tomorrow night to try to secure qualification.

Chelsea’s need for a winger continues to grow

All signs continue to point to this deal getting done eventually, and it can’t happen soon enough. Our presence in the US has really shown how short we are out wide with Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk out of the frame.

Once we’re back from the USA, we expect Gittens to join and he may not be the only one. Unless Estevao Willian is considered a first team option right away, another signing may be needed.
