Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb has sustained a blow to his recovery process during training last week, it has been revealed.
The Norway international first made his return to Manchester City training ground duties in early January after a lengthy lay-off following a leg bone fracture sustained prior to the start of the Premier League season.
Bobb had approached the new campaign with plenty of optimism that this could be the season he firmly breaks through into Pep Guardiola’s consistent starting line-up thinking, particularly after a stellar pre-season camp in the United States.
Offering goal contributions throughout City’s four matches Stateside, there was a feeling the right of the front-three could be made his own, although a starting place against Chelsea on the opening weekend was snatched away from him via the training ground problem.
Now, having made his return to training, supporters across the globe have been eagerly awaiting his return to action but there has been a setback for the 21-year-old to contend with as part of his road to a full recovery.
According to the information of MailSport journalist Jack Gaughan, Oscar Bobb ‘went over on his ankle’ during Manchester City training last week, and while the problem is described as ‘not serious’ it is undoubtedly a setback to his recovery process.
Pep Guardiola’s first update on the return of Oscar Bobb came seven days after the winger was spotted in training for the first time as the Catalan told reporters in early January, “He’s training already with the team, partial. It’s good news for us.
“I don’t know [when he will be back], but it’s not muscular. It was a bone, a fracture, and one that is already fixed so it’s fine. Now it’s physical condition, but it’s good news that he’s back.”
For now, it remains to be seen when Oscar Bobb could now be expected to make a return to Manchester City matchday action with a number of mammoth contests on the horizon for the Premier League champions.
Midweek will see Pep Guardiola’s players take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League as both teams contend for a place in the last-16 of Europe’s premier club competition via the play-off round.
