Osmar Stabile, the Corinthians president, faces a third impeachment request. According to Globo.com, member Leandro Cano filed the new petition.
It cites a statement from the Ministério Público de São Paulo criticising Stabile's role in a criminal case involving vice president Armando Mendonça and the handling of Nike kit.
The request says Stabile acted against the club's interests by intervening in a case in which Corinthians is a potential victim and by signing a note backing Armando. It adds that his arguments matched Armando Mendonça's defence strategy.
During the probe, Stabile said an internal audit did not conclude the vice president diverted, removed or appropriated sports materials. The filing also cites a possible conflict of interest and says his conduct could amount to reckless management.
Armando Mendonça has been charged with continued aggravated embezzlement, attempted continued aggravated embezzlement, qualified theft by abuse of trust, and coercion during proceedings. Prosecutor Cássio Conserino alleges he took 131 Nike items, sought 19 special shirts with an NFL patch, kept eight, and threatened two witnesses.
In April, members and councillors filed the first impeachment request against Stabile, alleging breaches of the Corinthians statute and law. The focal point was a deal with the Procuradoria-Geral da Fazenda Nacional (PGFN) to regularise debt of R$ 1.2 billion.
The authors said Parque São Jorge was used as collateral, with the social headquarters valued at R$ 602.2 million. Two months later, in June, a second request alleged issues in the hiring of security firms.
