Osmar Stabile, the Corinthians president, has yet to decide whether to seek re-election at the end of the year. He will wait longer before making a final call.
According to Meu Timao, he considers himself eligible to stand, although his status under the current club statute is disputed.
Article 103, paragraph two, prohibits re-election. Paragraph four allows a bid when a president filled a vacancy, provided the period in office was up to 18 months.
It is unclear whether that 18-month clock includes any interim spell or runs only from formal inauguration. Stabile served as interim from late May last year and was elected by the CD in early August. If the interim months count, he would be barred this year.
A reform text, finalised in late February, is due for a CD vote next Monday at Parque São Jorge. In it, article 67-A states that stepping in after a declared vacancy does not itself cause ineligibility, but only if the office was held for up to 12 months before the next election, counted from taking office. On that reading, Stabile would pass the limit by November.
Another clause, article 142-C in the transitional provisions, waives that limit for vacancies predating approval by a General Assembly, so his route to a candidacy could reopen. Both articles are embedded in the main text, so if the CD approves the project, the new election rules would also pass automatically.
