Eddie Howe watched on as his Newcastle United team made it six wins in a row on Saturday.
The NUFC Head Coach reflecting on where he and his players now stand, following the excellent 2-1 win at Spurs.
Newcastle bouncing back from conceding a very early goal, well worth their eventual victory.
A great first half with some excellent attacking play at times, then after the break more a case of holding on to that lead they’d worked so hard to get, following Solanke’s fourth minute goal.
Eddie Howe reflects on Spurs 1 Newcastle 2 and United making it six wins in a row:
“Our confidence has definitely shifted.
“It naturally does when you win games.
“It was something we were building to, the performances were good.
“We are a very good team with good players.
“I would like to think that we can keep it going.
“We had to dig deep. It was a tough win, but a massive one
“Based on our first half performance, I thought we were really good.
“The most pleasing thing is to come back from conceding an early goal away from home.
“We made it hard for ourselves but played really well in the end.
“On another day maybe we could have led by two at the break and then second half we had to defend really well.
“I’m really pleased to get over the line and win the game.
“Some of our attacking play in the first half was really strong.
“It was a different game in the second half, very stop-start, a lot of injuries, but overall I thought we defended well.
“Yes, Tottenham played well in the second half and they brought on some quality players, pushed us back at times, but we did enough to get over the line.”
Eddie Howe on the Anthony Gordon equaliser:
“Of course it hit his [Joelinton’s] hand… but from that point onwards I thought it was a really good goal.
“I believe that his arm’s down in a natural position and I think that the referee and the VAR have followed the rules and protocols that are in place, so that’s why it was given.”
Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak:
“He was in the right place at the right time [to score the winner].
“That is an art.
“Another good cross from Jacob Murphy.
“He [Alexander Isak] will be disappointed with the one he didn’t take.
“He is on a hot streak and long may that continue.”
