Ousmane Dembele Reveals Lionel Messi’s Instant Ballon d'Or Message

Ousmane Dembele opened up about the moments following his Ballon d’Or win when he edged Barcelona's young prodigy Lamine Yamal to claim the prestigious prize.

In interview with France Football, set to be published in full on Saturday, the Paris Saint Germain forward revealed he was flooded with congratulatory notes from current and former teammates.

Among them were Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Luis Suarez, Achraf Hakimi and coach Luis Enrique. Dembele said they were all "genuinely happy" for his achievement.

Messi's instant reaction

According to Dembele, Messi's message was the very first to arrive. The Argentine legend who holds record 8 Ballons d'or, also left comment on Dembele’s Instagram post:

Reflecting on his journey, Dembele compared the Ballon d’Or win to his famous solo goal against Tottenham in the Champions league back in December 2018.

He described the play as pressing opponent into mistake before beating another with skill to score, saying:

"That’s more or less how I earned the Ballon d’Or"
