Pablo Torre has been a curious case at Barcelona this season. Once a seemingly forgotten figure in midfield, the former Racing prodigy has made a solid impression in the limited opportunities he has gotten under Hansi Flick this season.

Torre has racked up three goals in just six competitive matches, earning the label of an impact substitute for Flick.

In a recent interview with Manu Amor, Torre talked about his prospects at Barcelona going forward, while offering his thoughts on Hansi Flick as well as previous coach Xavi Hernandez.

Pablo Torre on Hansi Flick

“I think that from the outside he looks very serious and imposing, but he’s the opposite, he very affectionate with every one of us,” Torre said when asked about Flick.

The midfielder went on to reveal that he has a solid relationship with the German tactician, adding, “We have a very healthy relationship in the locker room, with a lot of respect that’s reflected on the pitch. We feel great.”

Flick’s trust in Torre was crucial in helping him emerge as a useful option for Barcelona this season. However, the road ahead could be difficult for the midfielder, given the immense competition on offer.

Torre on succeeding at Barcelona

Pablo Torre, though, is refusing to give up just yet and is more than prepared to fight for a place in the team, despite the immense competition.

When asked about whether or not he will succeed at Barça, Torre responded, “Of course. if not, I would have left already. I know what I am capable of if I have the confidence.”

I have many qualities to be there (first team) but I need continuity, it is also true that it is difficult to have it at Barcelona but I am calm. I know that playing every week will come sooner or later,” he added.

Torre was also asked why he refused to leave Barcelona in the summer, despite knowing the competition that was in store for him.

“Because I trust myself a lot. During the season there are moments for everyone because unfortunately injuries happen and I wanted to try to take advantage of all those moments.

So far I have been able to do that but there is a lot of healthy and good competition for the team,” he replied.

When asked about the prospect of leaving in January, Torre added, “There’s still a month and a half left in which I have to focus on Barcelona. After that, we’ll see what happens.”

Torre on Xavi Hernandez

Despite his limited game-time at Barcelona, Torre’s current status at the club is way more elevated than it was last season under Xavi Hernandez.

The midfielder, though, did not fail to heap praise on the former Barcelona manager, notably crediting him for giving chances to youngsters.

“What did I learn from Xavi? A lot. He gave debuts to a lot of youngsters who now have experience in La Liga and the Champions League,” he said.

He was the one who pushed us to do that, and with him, we won a League and a Spanish Super Cup. He did things very well,” he concluded.
