Palace easily dispatch young Liverpool side to progress

Ismaila Sarr haunted Liverpool once again as Palace piled on the misery against a very young Reds side.

Arne Slot was not prepared to risk the vast majority of his first team players in the Carabao Cup, with out-of-form Milos Kerkez the only survivor from the defeat to Brentford with Freddie Woodman and teenager Kieran Morrison making their debuts.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner kept six of his players from the recent loss to Arsenal and one of those six was Ismaila Sarr who had scored five times against Liverpool in total, including in each of his last games against them.

Inevitably, it was Sarr who opened the scoring against the young Reds side in the 41st minute. There was an element of luck as Joe Gomez's clearance fell kindly for Sarr who was able to bury it into the corner.

The second goal though was far more easy on the eye after a lengthy spell of Palace possession. Then all of sudden Sarr was through, thanks in part to a wonderful pass from Yéremy Pino allowing the forward to get his seventh goal against Liverpool in total.

Ordinarily, you might expect Slot to ring the changes at half-time, but the Dutch coach had also named a young bench.

Perhaps the best sight for Liverpool fans was the exit of Sarr in the 62nd minute with the Senegal international not getting the chance to bag a hat-trick.

Things got worse towards the end as former West Ham youth product Amara Nallo received a straight red card when he brought down Justin Devenny who was through on goal and about to have a one-on-one opportunity against Woodman.

That's now the second time Nallo has been sent off in as many games for Liverpool, after also receiving a red card against PSV in the Champions League back in January.

There was still time for one more goal, this one a deserved one for Pino after Palace caught Liverpool high up the pitch. The Spaniard then managed to shift the ball to his right before finishing into the corner to make it 3-0 at Anfield and guarantee Palace's place in the quarter-finals.
