Ahead of that game, we look back on some other friendlies City have played since Pep Guardiola arrived in Manchester…

Real Madrid 1-4 City, Los Angeles, July 2017

In front of more than 90,000 fans at the Coliseum Stadium, City ran riot against a strong Real Madrid side.

Nicolas Otamendi opened the scoring, converting the rebound after John Stones’ header was parried by Iker Casillas, before Raheem Sterling doubled the advantage with a cool finish into the near post.

Stones then made it three on 67 minutes, guiding Kevin De Bruyne’s cut-back into the far corner with a finish any striker would be proud of, and Brahim Diaz smashed home a fourth with ten minutes to go, following a lovely passage of play.

Real Madrid grabbed a consolation with a minute left on the clock, as Oscar thundered a stunning 30-yard effort into the back of the net - but it did little to blemish a superb City performance.

Bayern Munich 2-3 City, Miami, July 2018

Fresh from being Centurions in the previous campaign, the Blues returned to the US and beat another giant of the European game.

A youthful City, featuring six teenagers, signed off the International Champions Cup campaign with a superb comeback victory in Miami, as Bernardo Silva came off the bench to bag a brace to seal a fine victory over the German side.

The Bundesliga outfit had stormed into a two-goal lead thanks to efforts from Meritan Shabani and Arjen Robben.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men showed our character along with our class to come from behind and overhaul Niko Kovac’s side, courtesy of Bernardo’s two fantastic finishes and Lukas Nmecha’s first senior goal.

City 2-0 Girona, Manchester, December 2022

The 2022 World Cup during the winter meant a mid-season friendly was required ahead of the return to action.

Kevin De Bruyne marked his return from Qatar with the opener in the fifth minute, when he intercepted Paulo Gazzaniga’s pass out to slot past the Argentine ‘keeper.

The 31-year-old then turned provider and reignited his partnership with Erling Haaland that proved so efficient during the first half of the season, by squaring the ball for the Norwegian to tap home.

Yokohama F. Marinos 3-5 City, Tokyo, July 2023

This was the first game of our Asia 2023 Tour of Japan and Korea – and we began with an exciting victory at the Japan National Stadium.

It wasn’t the best of starts to the game for Pep Guardiola’s men as they went 2-0 down with the clock ticking through to half-time.

Goals from Anderson Lopes and Ken Matsubara put Kevin Muscat’s side in control but City came roaring back before the interval.

John Stones fired home on 41 minutes and then Julian Alvarez levelled matters on 43 minutes to see the sides in at 2-2.

After the break, Erling Haaland made it 3-2 with a fine left foot finish on 52 minutes before Rodrigo increased our lead with a deft shot on 72 minutes.

There was a mix-up between Rico Lewis and Stefan Ortega Moreno on 86 minutes and Shion Inoue took advantage by sliding the ball home.

But City weren’t finished and it was that man, Haaland, who completed the scoring, stroking home at the back post after a fine cross by Joao Cancelo.
