Announced by Palmeiras last Friday, centre-back Barboza visited the Academia de Futebol on Wednesday to see the facilities he will represent in the second half of 2026. He did not train with the group, instead observing the subsequent session at Allianz Parque.
According to Globo.com, he has left Botafogo to sign with Palmeiras until December 2028, with the option of a further year. He expressed eagerness to play, saying the fans will start singing his name once he is on the pitch, while stressing that training and playing come first.
Barboza can only debut from 20 July, the opening of the mid-year transfer window, which comes after the World Cup pause.
Before the break, Palmeiras host Junior Barranquilla at 19:00 Brasília time on Thursday as they chase a place in the Libertadores last 16, then Chapecoense in the league on Sunday. The club will confirm their schedule for the pause in due course.
Palmeiras will pay 4 million dollars, about R$ 20 million, in four instalments. The deal takes their centre-back group to five, Gustavo Gómez, Murilo, Bruno Fuchs, Benedetti and Barboza.
Ivorian defender Koné has joined the academy support group for the first team this month and was listed amid injuries to Benedetti and Fuchs.
