Palmeiras survive marathon stoppage time as leaders stay top

Palmeiras edged Chapecoense 1-0 at home to stay top of the Brasileirão, with Paulinho striking after the break before a VAR-overturned goal and a missed penalty deep into second half stoppage time.

In the 43rd minute, Allan was sent off with a straight red, leaving Verdão a man down.

Paulinho, introduced on 57 minutes, settled it with a composed right-footed finish from Felipe Anderson's pass (65.).

In the ninth minute of second half stoppage time, Italo thought he had levelled, but VAR ruled the goal out. Ten minutes later, Neto Pessoa won a penalty and VAR confirmed the spot kick in the 15th minute of added time. Yannick Bolasie then struck the bar with the penalty in the 20th minute of second half stoppage time.

Marcelo Lomba made three saves to preserve the lead. Chape registered 15 attempts as they pushed late on.
