Brazil and Paraguay’s last 16 exits have given Palmeiras a window to move on two deals, a push for Danilo and possible interest in Mauricio.
According to Globo.com, the board are in talks with representatives and president Leila Pereira has returned. A quick decision is sought before the World Cup ends, with Palmeiras back on 22 July against Coritiba.
Danilo is the priority target. He remains eligible to play the Brasileiro elsewhere after failing to reach 13 games for Botafogo. After a muted World Cup, Botafogo, who had hoped for 40 million euros, about R$ 236 million, now admit the price could drop, and the player’s camp are open to a Brazilian move, though Europe remains the aim.
Mauricio has overseas suitors, notably Atalanta, who have made two enquiries and signalled a possible formal bid. Palmeiras deny any offer and await a firmer move to decide the Paraguayan’s future. In May, Leila Pereira said she would not part with players considered starters.
Mauricio shone early in the Paulista title run, then lost his place between late April and early May and often stayed on the bench. The board must weigh any fee against his contribution and the need for a replacement. Both players are on leave, with Mauricio due back between the end of this week and the start of next.
The window opens on 20 July. Palmeiras have already added centre-back Alexander Barboza from Botafogo for about R$ 20 million for the second half of the year.
