According to L'Équipe, Pape Thiaw has urged supporters not to set up fundraisers in his name, asking that any money be directed to more urgent causes.

At the end of normal time in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, after a penalty was awarded to the Moroccans, he instructed his players to leave the pitch. Senegal later won 1-0 after extra time.

The Confederation of African Football then issued a five-match suspension to Thiaw and a fine of 100,000 dollars, about 83,500 euros.

In support, fans launched an online fundraising drive that quickly drew more than 4,000 contributors and 4,401,953 CFA francs, about 6,700 euros.

Posting on Instagram, the Senegal head coach thanked supporters for their solidarity and daily backing before asking them not to organise collections in his name.
