Leeds United left Goodison Park with a point after a 1-1 draw at Everton, satisfaction tempered by what might have been. The result makes it four points taken off a Premier League regular, home and away, and extends a run of one defeat in 10. Leeds are now six points clear of West Ham United in 18th.
James Justin put the hosts ahead in the first half, before Thierno Barry levelled with a neat second-half finish. As reported by Leeds Live, several off-field notes emerged on the night.
Paraag Marathe watched on with sporting director Adam Underwood and managing director Robbie Evans, the trio led through by Angus Kinnear, the former Leeds chief executive now heading Everton. Kinnear started weeks before it was announced Dominic Calvert-Lewin would leave on a free. Evans and Underwood have also pursued Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen this month.
Everton’s stadium impressed, with airport-style security, self-scan ticketing with live messaging, and a fan zone piping chants. Pre-match, fans had options within the footprint, from accessible food stalls to space to gather. Leeds hope an Elland Road extension can encourage earlier arrivals and reduce traffic by offering similar facilities.
Sightlines, branding, access and operational flow looked first class, and Leeds’ hierarchy will have taken notes. Late on, Calvert-Lewin briefly headed for the touchline believing he was being substituted, only to be told he was staying on. Arsenal visit Elland Road on Saturday.
